Montezuma Castle really has nothing to do with Montezuma. It was a name applied by early discoverers.
The remains are from a Sinagua 20 room dwelling built into and in front of this cliff. |

The structure was built in stages, apparently in response to more members joining the group. |

These holes were used to hold the sycamore logs for the roof
structures. |

Beaver Creek runs along Montezuma castle.
Unlike most of the water ways we have observed in Arizona and New Mexico, this creek has rushing water and the Ranger said it is
always like this. |

There were some very large Arizona Sycamore trees. These are the trees that the inhabitants of Montezuma Castle used to build
their structures.. |
